What is a Passkey?

Trimble Identity allows for a flexible method of signing in using passkeys through Web Authentication (WebAuthn) support, an alternative to traditional password-based authentication. With passkeys, you can sign in with a biometric sensor (such as a fingerprint or facial recognition), PIN, or pattern, eliminating the need to remember or manage passwords.

How to create a passkey?

To create a passkey:

  1. In the My Profile page, under the Manage passkey section, click Create passkey.
You will be redirected to the Create a Passkey page.
  2. In the Create a Passkey page, enter your password and click Sign in.
  3. Click Create a passkey to set up your security key.
You can use any of the options provided by the browser to register your security key.
  4. After passkey registration, click Done. You will be redirected back to your profile page and the registered passkey will be listed under the Manage passkeys section. From your next sign in, you can use the Use a passkey option to sign in.

How many passkeys can one user have?

A user can register up to three passkeys with Trimble Identity.

Why can't I create a passkey or see the option in MyProfile?

Passkeys are only available to native users. Users that are part of an enterprise federation cannot utilize passkeys within Trimble Identity and will not see this section of the My Profile page.

How to add a passkey as MFA?

To Create Passkey during Sign-up as Multi-Factor:
  1. To Create Passkey during Sign-up as First Factor: During the sign-up process, after entering the password, the Create Passkey page will be shown as illustrated below. If a passkey is created at this stage, it will be used as the first factor for authentication, thereby skipping the MFA step in the sign-up process.

  2. During the sign-up process, after entering the password, if the user skips creating a passkey initially, an option to create a passkey as MFA will be available during the MFA step. If a passkey is created at this stage, it will serve as both the first factor and the multi-factor authentication.

  3. To Create Passkey as MFA in My-Profile Page, a Passkey can be created in the MFA section

  4. An existing passkey can be enabled as MFA in the MFA section. In this step, the existing passkey will be added as a multi-factor authentication method.
