Trimble has owned SketchUp since 2012. They bought SketchUp from Google.

Design8 bv in Tiel, the Netherlands, has been the Trimble authorized distributor of SketchUp in the Benelux since 2002. It is an independent company and not part of Trimble.

I see that SketchUp is also free, why should I buy it?

You would need to purchase SketchUp because the free version only runs in the browser and has no desktop version. You also miss many tools such as LayOut, and PreDesign and you can not use extensions to render photos - realistically , for example. Finally, you may not use the free version commercially.
