Cloud-render, Credits & SketchUp Studio

Chaos Cloud render works as following:

  1. You need to prepare your render locally
  2. You set everything to full resolution.
  3. You press the cloud icon to send the render(s) to the cloud.

    - This can be a single render or a video, panorama, or batch render.

  4. The browser pops open. You need to log in to the cloud.

  5. A browser shows some settings, such as "which project does this render belong to," and last-minute changes like file format and render dimensions. For a video, you can choose to render a limited selection of the total frames as a test.

  6. You click "submit," and the render(s) start(s).

  7. You go do something else, like updating your email, having coffee, attending meetings, or whatever else is part of your tasks.

  8. You receive an email at the email address you logged in with, notifying you that your render is ready. You can access the result from the email or have it automatically downloaded to Google Drive.

How much does it cost?

Rendering in the Cloud is paid in credits. The cost of a render depends on how long it takes to compute. This, in turn, depends on many factors:
  • Render dimensions
  • Complexity of lighting
  • Complexity of the scene
  • Chosen quality
  • Material usage in the scene
  • Chosen channels
  • ... and many more (but these are the most important)

Cloud credits are independent of a license but are linked to a login.

Credits can be purchased separately from the license, either through your reseller, through us, or directly online from Chaos. Credits are bought per user.

With a premium or solo license, licenses are usually purchased for one user. But with SketchUp Studio, the V-Ray license is tied to an end user, not an administrator. So, everyone has their own account... what do you do with those cloud credits?

Can this be done with a (large) number of people?

If you want to buy credits on one account and distribute them among your SketchUp Studio users, you need to request an "Organization" from Chaos. Setting up an organization may result in existing credits being lost. It is therefore advisable to use existing credits first. An organization looks something like this:

It becomes an additional section on the my.chaos.com page - those who are not members or administrators of an organization will not see this section.

You can then set how many credits each user is allowed to use. This can also be unlimited.

A disadvantage of this system is that the user cannot see how many credits are remaining - only the administrator can.

To set up an organization, please contact us. We will need from you:

  • Name and email address of the administrator
  • Company name

Adding Users to an organization

You can do this yourself after receiving an organization.

  1. Next to the person icon, click on the three dots
  2. Choose Invite users
  3. Enter the user's email address. Note: the user must already have an existing Chaos account.
  4. Choose to make the user a "guest" if the user wants to use the SketchUp Studio License. Normally, this interface is also used for license management - in that case, you would choose "member," but in this case, it's only for Cloud credits.
