Extracting source content from a LayOut file

Modified on Wed, 13 Nov at 3:50 PM

Creating a LayOut document is primarily a matter of inserting content into your document. But if you ever want to reuse or update the content of a referenced document in another format or program (and you haven't updated the original file or its content since you imported it into your document), you can extract any file that your document references.

Tip: Referenced content includes text you've imported, images you've inserted, or SketchUp model entities that reference .skp model files.

To extract a file referenced in a LayOut document, follow these steps:

  1. In the drawing area, click the context on the text, image, or SketchUp model being referenced.
  2. In the context menu that appears, select Open with Text Editor, Open with Image Editor, or Open with SketchUp, respectively. The referenced content will open in the default text editor, image editor, or SketchUp.
  3. Save the referenced content to a new file.

Tip: You can specify the default text editor or image editor in the LayOut preferences.
