Do I need to switch to PlaceMaker v4?

Here is something you need to take action on: All previous versions of PlaceMaker will stop working. This applies to both the SketchUp and Revit versions. Users who want to open PlaceMaker in the old version after June 13th will see a message prompting them to update.


The good news: the update is completely free for existing users. Credits, licenses, and seats will simply be retained. So nothing will be lost; you just need to install the new extension.

What's new in the latest version of PlaceMaker?

• A new, unified PlaceMaker environment for SketchUp, Revit, and the web
• Preview of Google Earth imports before importing
• Terrain preview before importing
• Google Earth import no longer requires an API key (now also available for users in the EU!)
• New data source: Google Terrain
• New data source: Nearmap Point Cloud

• Optionally use your own API keys for Nearmap or Google 3D Earth to save PlaceMaker credits
• AI features (also known as SmartSite) from Ecopia now available within a few days at a much lower price
• View your recent imports via the new History tab, accessible from any device
• Via the web, previous imports are also available as GLB and geoJSON files, for easy import into most 3D and GIS applications
• Improved license management and options for sharing licenses within teams
• Because your imports are now stored in the cloud, you can re-import for free if SketchUp or Revit crashes, or if you forgot to save
• We now use an improved geocoder service for quick and easy navigation to any address in the world

Upgrading to V4

Updating to version 4 is easy:

Download and install the v4 extension for SketchUp or Revit once it becomes available. Set your password. PlaceMaker v4 no longer works with license keys, but uses a personal account based on email and password. Existing users only need to request a password reset via the email address linked to their license. Logging in via Google or Apple ID is also possible, as long as the email address matches.

New users can choose between a free Pay-As-You-Go account or a paid subscription.

A pay-as-you-go account is free. It allows you to preview geospatial data for free and purchase in-app credits. You then pay per individual import, meaning you don't need to commit to an annual subscription.

Sharing licenses within a team

Does your team work with multiple users? Then the new license sharing feature is definitely of interest. Subscription holders can purchase extra seats and invite team members via the License Management tab in the dashboard. Invitations can be revoked at any time by the account administrator.

Note: license sharing is only possible with paid subscriptions, not with Pay-As-You-Go accounts!

Version compatibility

PlaceMaker v4 is compatible with SketchUp 2021 and newer, and with Revit 2022 and newer. Older versions are unfortunately no longer supported due to technical limitations. The 3D Earth refinement feature is temporarily absent in v4, but the developer is working on an improved version of this.
