Placing a SketchUp file in LayOut

Follow the steps below:

1. Open File > Insert

2. Browse to the SketchUp file

3. The SketchUp model is placed in a frame in your LayOut document

4. You can manipulate the frame just like other rectangular shapes, such as:

  • Change position by clicking and dragging it
  • Change dimensions by pulling the corners
  • Rotate by dragging the compass
  • Mirror by selecting right click > Flip > Top to Bottom / Left to Right
  • Arrange by selecting right click > Arrange > Brig to Front / Send Backward / Send to Back
  • Move to the current layer by selecting right-click > Move to Current Layer

Once you have placed your SketchUp model in your LayOut document, you can change the view or change the rendering options, for example. Right-click on the model to:

- Turn the perspective on or off

- Change scale (choosing a default scale will immediately turn the perspective off)

- Select standard views

- Turn shadows and X-ray mode on or off

- Change rendering options, such as:

  • Choose the display mode WireFrame, Hidden Line, Shaded, Shaded with Textures or Monochrome
  • Lijneffecten: Profile, Depth Cued, Extend, Endpoints and Jitter.
  • Air and ground surface
  • Turn text and construction geometry on or off
  • Turn text and construction geometry on or off.

- Right-click on the model and then choose Edit 3D View. This will allow you to use your mouse to rotate, pan, and zoom, just like you do in SketchUp

If you have the SketchUp model frame selected or are in Edit 3D View mode, you can also make adjustments to the view, shadow, and elevation using the SketchUp Model inspector. This gives you some additional options not available via right-click. To access this inspector:

1. Open the Window menu

2. Click on SketchUp Model

3. For more information on how to use the inspector, please refer to the user guide under Help.

Edit Sketchup model in Layout:

When you change the view of your SketchUp model in your LayOut file, you cannot make changes to e.g. the geometry. But you can do it very easily in SketchUp from LayOut:

1. Right click on the embedded model

2. Click Open with SketchUp

3. The model will open in SketchUp, allowing you to make your changes

4. When you are done, click File > Save in SketchUp

If you have made changes to your SketchUp model after placing it in LayOut, these changes will not be automatically reflected in LayOut. To make these changes manually, follow these steps:

1. Open the LayOut document and select File > Document Setup

2. Click on References in the left section

3. In the right section you can select the SketchUp file. Status will then be shown as Out of Date

4. Click Update

5. Click Close when you are done
