This example uses SketchUp Pro 2021 and 2022. Replace with the data for your version if necessary.
Institutions
Mac
- Shortcuts - Shortcuts should have been automatically copied from SketchUp Pro 2021 to SketchUp Pro 2022.
Didn't it happen automatically? In ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp20xx/SketchUp you will find a file called SharedPreferences.json that contains, among other things, the keyboard shortcuts. This same file also stores a large number of settings from the Preferences window. In versions 2017 and earlier, the shortcuts were stored in the Shortcuts.plist file. Both types of files can be opened with a simple text editor and edited if necessary, but information from a plist file cannot be copied 1 on 1 to the json file, it is easier to reset your shortcuts.
- Templates - If all goes well, the template you used in SU2021 will also be used in SU2022.
The Templates folder in ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp20xx/SketchUp is automatically copied to the new installation. If for some reason this did not happen automatically, you can do this manually, and then choose the template from the start screen as the template you want to start with. (Give it a heart)
If the folder ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp201x/SketchUp/Templates does not exist, it means that no template has ever been saved via File>Save as template…
- Toolbars - The positions and status of toolbars are stored in the PrivatePreferences.json file. Please note that this mainly concerns Extensions toolbars and that it is only useful to copy this file if the relevant extensions are installed. You can find this file in ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp201x/SketchUp
Windows
- Shortcuts - Shortcuts should have been automatically copied from SketchUp Pro 2021 to SketchUp Pro 2022.
Didn't it happen automatically? Then open SketchUp Pro 2021, go to Window > Preferences > Shortcuts, and click the "Export..." button. Save the data file where you can find it. Then open SketchUp Pro 2022, go to Window > Preferences > Shortcuts, click the "Import..." button, and find the file you saved in the previous step.
- Templates - If all goes well, the template you used in SketchUp 2021 will also be used in SketchUp 2022.
The custom templates from version 2021 should be automatically copied to C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2022\Resources\en-US\Templates. If this did not happen automatically, you can do it manually yourself. You can then choose the template via Window > Preferences > Templates as the template you want to start with.
- Toolbars - The positions and status of toolbars are stored in the PrivatePreferences.json file. Please note that this includes Extensions toolbars and that it is only useful to copy this file if relevant extensions are installed. You can find this file in C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp 2022\SketchUp
Materials
Mac
Copy the self-created materials folder from ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp2021/SketchUp/Materials to ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp2022/SketchUp/Materials if this was not done automatically.
Windows
If necessary, add the folders in which you store your materials to favorites again via the materials window: Window > Materials > arrow on the right side > Add collection to favorites…
Components
Mac
The list of favorite component folders in SU2022 is automatically inherited from the list of favorites in SU2021.
If this was not automatically adopted during the installation, point to the folders again via the Details menu in the components window: Window > Components > arrow on the right > Open a local collection… This window automatically also contains the option 'Add to favorites ', so you don't have to look for the folder yourself next time.
Windows
The list of favorite component folders in SU2022 is automatically inherited from the list of favorites in SU2021.
If this was not automatically taken over during the installation, remap the folders via the Details menu in the components window: Window > Components > > Open or create a local collection…
Then add the folder you opened to favorites so you don't have to look for it again next time: Window > Components > > Add to favorites…
Extensions
Each version of SketchUp improves the implementation of extensions within SketchUp. However, that improvement sometimes also means that something needs to be changed in the code of an extension and that some extensions are not automatically compatible with the latest version of SketchUp.
SketchUcation.com
The SketchUcation Plug-in store offers the possibility to update when you are logged in. Click on the gears at the top, there you can see which plug-ins you have previously downloaded and have them installed automatically.
Extension Warehouse
Extensions that you have downloaded in version 2022 via the Extension Warehouse can be reinstalled via the Extension Warehouse. However, the extension warehouse recently received a complete overhaul, so that only the paid extensions were still visible in your account. Download it by logging in at the top right of the extension warehouse screen. You can find the rest of the extension warehouse extensions again by typing their name in the search bar.
Render Extensions:
Most render plugins have been updated to work with version 2022. In general, you need to update these plugins via an installation file from the creators themselves.
- V Ray
Chaos has released an updated version. Licensed users can only get their files from the chaosgroup.com website after logging in. You can request the demo version via our website.
- SU Podium
- Artlantis
Download the updated exporters from SketchUp to Artlantis here.
- RenderIN
Download the compatible version of RenderIN here.
Other Extensions
Go to the Preferences window Via the SketchUp>Preferences menu. Click here on the subject 'Extensions'. Here you can click on the 'Install Extension…' button. Install other plug-ins in this way that you were unable to update via one of the above methods.
Of course, we cannot guarantee that the plugins will work with this option, or with the following:
Mac
If you have another plugin that only comes as an RB file instead of an RBZ file, you can copy it manually to the ~Library/Application Support/SketchUp20xx/SketchUp/Plugins folder. folder, you must copy that as well.
Windows
If you have another plugin that only comes as an RB file instead of an RBZ file, you can manually copy it to the folder C:/Users/[your username]/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 20xx /SketchUp/Plugins. Note that sometimes there is an associated folder, so you must copy that as well.
